State law requires orientation training for all new district board members within one year after taking office.
The training must address the powers, duties and responsibilities of a board member including, but not limited to, policy development, personnel, superintendent-board relations, instructional programs, district finance, school law, ethics and community relations.
The State Board of Education has approved SCSBA's new board orientation offered annually. Check the calendar for date and location.
The annual report card will indicate the percent of a district's new board members who have completed the training.
